This Donation Policy explains how The Poston Foundation receives and stewards charitable contributions, including support for Carolina Cares, Poston Preserve, and GERT Makes Waves.
1. Organization and Programs
The Poston Foundation is a South Carolina nonprofit corporation and IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. EIN: 85-0559047.
The Foundation’s current public programs include Carolina Cares, a direct-aid initiative centered on practical Essentials Kits; The Poston Preserve Initiative, a place-based public-history and community-development effort beginning in Poston, South Carolina; and GERT Makes Waves, a book-centered charitable campaign supporting children’s literacy, sponsored book outreach, coastal education, and responsible conservation purposes.
2. How Donations Help
Your donation helps The Poston Foundation carry out charitable program work such as purchasing supplies, preparing and distributing Essentials Kits, preserving and documenting local history, conducting community outreach, supporting literacy and book outreach, advancing coastal education, and maintaining responsible program records.
Donations support supplies, preparation, distribution, documentation, and related charitable operations. Unless the Foundation accepts a specific restriction in writing, donations may be used where needed in furtherance of the Foundation's charitable mission and consistent with donor intent, applicable law, and responsible stewardship.
3. Essentials Kit Contents and Gift Examples
Kits may include hygiene basics, socks, first-aid supplies, shelf-stable snacks, water, seasonal items, resource information, and other essentials, depending on season, community need, and available funding.
Suggested gift amounts and examples describe possible uses. They do not guarantee a specific kit count, distribution quantity, item mix, recipient, date, location, or outcome. Actual purchases and activities depend on need, costs, supply availability, funding, logistics, and charitable program decisions.
4. Online Donations Through Fundraise Up
Online donations for Foundation programs may be processed through Fundraise Up and its payment-processing partners. Donors may also use other approved channels identified by the Foundation.
5. Receipts and Tax Matters
Donors who give online will receive a transaction confirmation or receipt through the applicable donation platform or payment processor. Any statement about deductibility is subject to applicable law and the donor’s individual circumstances; donors should consult their own tax advisor when needed.
6. Refunds and Corrections
If you believe a donation was made in error or a receipt needs correction, contact the Foundation promptly. Refunds or corrections will be considered based on the circumstances, applicable law, funds already committed or spent, and the procedures of the applicable payment processor.
7. Sponsorship and Recognition
Sponsorships help fund charitable work. Any name, logo, newsletter, social, website, material, or event recognition is an acknowledgment of charitable support, not advertising, an endorsement, or guaranteed promotional exposure. Recognition may vary depending on consent, timing, available channels, and event plans.

The Foundation’s current online giving pathways include Carolina Cares, Poston Preserve, and GERT Makes Waves. Carolina Cares supports practical Essentials Kits, preparation, distribution, and related program operations. Poston Preserve supports the charitable Restore Poston founding pilot, including historical preservation, community outreach, modest projects, and early planning. GERT Makes Waves supports children’s literacy, sponsored book outreach, coastal education, and documented sea-turtle and coastal-conservation purposes through a giving pathway that keeps charitable contributions distinct from ordinary retail book purchases.
Program budgets and gift examples explain proposed use. They do not guarantee a specific kit count, project outcome, recognition placement, or distribution date. The Carolina Cares launch campaign, its annual program plan, and Poston Preserve Phase One are separate funding scopes and should be reviewed in that context.
For an unusual contribution, a proposed restriction, an in-kind gift, or a grant with specific conditions, contact the Foundation before sending support. For an existing donation question, identify the gift date, approximate amount, campaign, and issue without sharing full financial credentials.
